TAFCOP Portal Objective

The TAFCOP website aims to help subscribers and sim card users confirm how many active mobile connections are associated with their name and regularise any further connections they might have. The Customer Acquisition Form (CAF) is generally managed by the service providers.

Benefits of Tafcop

Some of the key benefits of the Tafcop are as follows:

  • Notifications are sent via the TAFCOP portal when nine or more SIM cards are attached to the same ID card.
  • Get easier to verify the connection of your SIM card and increase security with alerts.
  • Protect us from cases of Froud.
  • It’s quite easy to log onto the Tafcop portal.

Significance of Portal

  • Tafcop is crucial because it keeps customers safe from fraud and identity theft. Tafcop helps identify and prevent some common fraud types that might arise from mobile connections:
  • Tafcop can be used to detect unauthorised call forwarding, which occurs when incoming calls are forwarded to a different number without your consent and results in increased costs.
  • This occurs when someone obtains a phoney SIM card bearing your number and utilises it to gain access to your bank accounts, one-time passwords, and other confidential information.
  • The Tafcop portal is essential for detecting circumstances when someone has authorised international roaming on your number, which can occasionally lead to costly international calls or data usage.
  • If you see any signs of fraudulent behaviour on your mobile connections, you can utilise Tafcop to proactively check them and report any suspicious activity as soon as possible to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) or your service provider.
  • Tafcop also assists in identifying circumstances in which an individual obtains a mobile connection in your name for illicit purposes using identity documents.

Verification Guidelines for New Mobile Subscribers

This letter contains final instructions regarding the necessary verification of new mobile subscribers, based on the Supreme Court of India’s decision in WP(C) No. 285/2010 and the recommendations of a Joint Expert Committee in DOT (TAFCOP). You can view these instructions by using the TRAI Portal.

  • A photo, proof of identity (POI), and proof of address (POA) should be included with the CAF form when it is submitted to the SIM sales centre.
  • Provide the customer’s name, the date of issue, their cell number, the POI, POA, and the POS stamp to acknowledge the transaction.
  • When comparing the form’s photo to the actual identification and address proof documents, the SIM sales centre representative will verify that the customer’s photo matches the one on file.
  • After the network employee who issued the licence updates all client data in the database and indicates that all documents have been reviewed and saved there, the new SIM will be enabled.
  • The employee working at the point of sale must verify the customer’s signature in addition to entering the date of sale and commissioning of the mobile SIM into the database.
  • Once you have activated your mobile number, give your address and proof of identity over the phone to customer care to finish the tele-verification process.
  • Please be advised that selling an activated SIM card would cause the SIM to be closed and incur a Rs 50,000 fine.
  • Follow the guidelines while converting from prepaid to postpaid or postpaid to prepaid.
  • As the POS staff will verify that all data is accurate and legitimate based on the provided supporting documentation, ensure the CAF Form is error-free because the network provider won’t be responsible for it.
